Volunteers for the elderly

Population Aging is a global phenomenon. Countries in the world are experiencing growth i the number and proportion of older persons 60 years and above in their population. Our main objective is to help care for the vulnerable elderly who contributed to make our societies what they are today and can still be very useful because of their vast knowledge and experience in life. We are bringing together the younger generation to help the senior citizens address some of the challenges they face as they tap and learn from their vast experience, knowledge, skills and even get blessings from them.

Major challenges the elderly face;

  • Neglect and abandonment
  • Stigma
  • Higher health care/Nursing costs
  • Increasing poverty Levels
  • Social Isolation
  • Loneliness
  • Elderly Abuse
  • Poor Housing
  • Malnutrition

Our Causes

Loneliness increases an older person’s chances of premature death, and the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke. Feeling isolated can disrupt sleep, raise blood pressure, increase levels of the stress hormone cortisol, interfere with immunity, increase depression and anxiety and lower feelings of wellbeing and quality of life.

Repair/rebuilding proper housing to the elderly

Older people are the most vulnerable to the ill effects of poor housing and the age group are more likely to occupy poor housing that has enormous effects on their health and to remain independent in the face of disability. We help the elderly have decent housing by repairing, rebuilding dilapidated houses or building new houses for them.

Donating Food to the elderly

Micronutrient deficiencies are always common in elderly people due to a number of factors such as lack of access to food due to poverty or other challenges, reduced food intake and lack of varieety of the foods they can take maybe due to health issues. We strive to help the vulnerable elderly people access food that is balanced in our societies.

Elderly Education & Skills trainings

Aging of the individual in the strict sense means growing old. Individual development, upgrading skills and healthy lifestyle at old age helps the elderly overcome the limitations experienced at old age. This would help to ensure among other things, that the years added to life could be infused with a new sense of purpose and liveliness appreciated at both individual and collective level..

Providing health care to the elderly

An ageing population tend to have a higher prevalence of chronic diseases, physical disabilities, mental illness and other co-morbidities. The health needs and health related problem of elderly people cannot be viewed in isolation, we are standing up for them to help them access medical services, visit them in hospitals, help pay their hospital bills, organize free medical camps etc.

Organizing social forums to combat social isolation among the elderly

For seniors, as for other people of all ages, involvement in recreation activities can satisfy a variety of needs. Among the benefits of recreation for the senior population is increased health and fitness, as well as opportunity to socialize for using skills and talents developed throughout their life time and for learning new skills.
